About Winch Sizing

A winch size calculator determines the appropriate winch capacity needed to safely pull a load. It considers factors like vehicle weight, incline angle, and surface resistance to calculate the required pulling force.

Example Calculation

For a 5,000 lb vehicle on a 30° incline with medium resistance:

Required force = Weight × (sin(incline) + resistance)

= 5,000 × (sin(30°) + 0.2)

= 5,000 × (0.5 + 0.2) = 3,500 lbs

With safety factor (1.5x): 3,500 × 1.5 = 5,250 lbs
